Whiterocks Portrush

The Whiterocks Blue Flag beach is divinely located contiguous with East Strand, forming between them, a 3 mile beach, just outside Portrush town. Sweeping golden sands, long wide beach, crashing ocean waves and giant sand dunes makes this beach truly natures playground.

Towering white basalt cliffs and spectacular views.

The Whiterocks, which is a clean, safe beach provides a completely different vibe from the two 'in town' Strands. Whiterocks is fantastic for people of all ages, it is especially loved for swimming, surfing, paddle boarding, diving, horse riding, kayaking, fishing, boating and all watersports. Lifeguards are on duty between 11am and 7pm everyday from June 21st until Sept 7th (high season), and in May and June at weekends.

Whiterocks Beach can be found via a narrow access road off the A2. The drive down to the ocean is curvy, with a couple of parking and picnic possibilities on the way down! At the bottom there are toilet and shower facilities. It is possible to walk, bike or take a bus to the Whiterocks.

Children especially love this beach.

Children especially love this beach as they find so many things to excite their imagination and enrich their instinctual love of nature. Climbing on the black rocks on the ocean's edge, running wild and free down the dunes, swimming, making sand castles, frisbee, footie...it's all possible. Those experiences we long to have can be created right here at the Whiterocks. The huge grass covered white limestone cliffs, which give the beach it's name, are impressive, in double tiers at times. This rocky area continues around the coastline until Dunluce Castle. Enjoy the views of the headlands near and far jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean and hunt around in the rocks below for caves to explore.

Panoramic views of the Causeway Coast, Donegal and the Islands of Scotland.

The cliffs and headlands afford panoramic views of the Causeway Coast, Donegal and the islands of Scotland and are designated as an ASSI, an Area of Special Scientific Interest. For sensational views you can stop at a Magheracross, a custom built area which allows sublime views of Dunluce Castle in one direction and Portrush and the Whiterocks in the other. Perfect for sunset!

The nearest place for food is the Royal Court Hotel, which overlooks the Whiterocks and is right across from the access road to the beach. They have a licensed Bar and Restaurant open daily serving meals and snacks.
